Things on the 2021 Agenda: Too many Irons in the Fire?
Well, we made it through the shit-show that was 2020. As of writing, we are all healthy and well. Still reeling from the worst election in modern times, we are looking to get elbow deep in some projects that will occupy our time and attention away from all of the hate speech and negative people that are sucking the life out of us.
The projects:
1. The 1963 Airstream Overlander: (named "Pearl") Pearl will be our rolling hotel room for trips that we want to spend camping or on short notice. It will sleep 2 adults and 2 kids. We will keep the bathroom as is, and update the rest. We will have new USB charging, modern fridge, new kitchen, new beds, simple and useable. We will keep the finish dull and try to retain the charm of the coolest vintage camper.
The bad: rotten floors, needs a/c and appliances, frame repair, plumbing, electrical, axles, complete interior.
The good: the body is in good shape, will have a scaled-down build-out, will not have a complicated layout, low input cost. Planning a 4-month renovation.
2. Vintage german cars: 1977 Porsche 924 and 1961 Beetle. The Porsche has been mine for 23/24 years and was a car I had driven in college. I do not have lofty expectations for the car. It needs to run/drive and be reliable. The Beetle has been basically restored. It needs more power, which is why the call for a new motor. The old beam is narrowed severely and makes it ride a little sketchy, so we are going a little more conservative. Other than a few cosmetic fixes, it is ready to go. Both cars will serve as daily driver type cars.
The bad: Porsche has been sitting in a barn for 20 years, surface rust, sun-damaged interior, bad fuel injection, needs a/c fixed (we are in the south), it is old. VW needs a new motor and front beam.
The good: VW is nearly restored, have the motor and new beam to put in/on the car. Porsche has been mine since the late '90s, have carbs and engine parts to fix fuel issues, going to strip down the interior to the bare minimum, very little money in the car.
3. Outdoor kitchen: This will serve as a grilling center for our outside cooking. 6 posts and a roof. We will build the counters out and a place to put our Ooni pizza oven.
4. Workshop: The barn will be getting a workstation for bikes/dirtbikes and small projects. Also, it will serve as a place to keep the bikes and paddleboards.
All of the are already in progress, but some will take priority based on weather/needs/money at the time.
